Rickey Henley Henderson is a former Major League Baseball player, and one of the best to ever play the game. Rickey Was born on December 25th, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout his career, Henderson has played for nine different teams, spanning all the way from 1979, until 2003. Rickey Henderson is famous for being one of the fastest players in the Majors, stealing over 1000 bases, and being a great leadoff hitter. Henderson made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics, on June 24th, 1979, and made his last appearance with the Los Angeles Dodgers, on September 19th, 2003.

Throughout his career, Henderson put up extremely impressive numbers. His career statistics include a .279 batting average, 3055 hits, 297 homeruns, 1406 stolen bases, and 2295 runs scored. Throughout his career, Henderson played on several different teams, and certain teams more than once.

In 1979, he started his career with the Oakland Athletics, as mentioned before. He would stay with the Athletics until 1984. After the 1984 season, Henderson would sign with the New York Yankees in 1985, and would stay there from 1985-1989. After the 1989 season, Henderson returned to his old team, the Oakland Athletics, where he stayed until 1993. Also in 1993, Henderson played shortly for the Toronto Blue Jays, although that was the only year he played there. In 1994, Henderson was signed by the Oakland Athletics again, and would stay there until 1995. In 1996, the San Diego Padres signed him, and he would stay there until 1997, and also played for the Anaheim Angels. In 1998, he returned to the Oakland Athletics again, and this time for an even shorter stay, as he was there just that one year. The New York Mets signed him in 1999, and he stayed there until 2000, and part way through the 2000 season, he was signed by the Seattle Mariners. The San Diego Padres resigned him in 2001, and he would only stay there that year. In 2002, the Red Sox signed him, and in 2003, the Dodgers signed him, which is where he eventually retired. Many people feel he should have retired with the Oakland A's, although that wasn't an option for Henderson, as his career was coming to an end. He did also coach the Mets in 2007.

Throughout his career he broke many records and won many awards. These include having the record on 1406 stolen bases, 2295 career runs, 81 career leadoff homeruns, 130 stolen bases in a single season, as well as many others. His career awards include being selected to the All star team 10 times, winning the world series 2 times in 1989 and 1993, being a 3 time silver slugger award winner, a gold glove award winner in 1981, a 1990 AL mVp, the 1989 ALCS MVP, the 1999 NL Comeback Player of the Year, and has had his number 24 retired in the Oakland Athletics organization.



Overall, Henderson's long career has made a lasting impact on the game of baseball for over 20 years. He is one of baseballs greats and has made the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
