Craig Kimbrel

The closers of 2013 fantasy baseball all bow down to one player: Craig Kimbrel. The Braves closer is the best relief pitcher in 2013 fantasy baseball and he’s going to be taken before some starting pitchers in your draft. That’s just how good he is. When you talk about closers there’s really only one stat that matters and that stat is saves. You can’t get saves from starters in 2013 fantasy baseball and relievers are the only way to get this category in fantasy. That’s why Kimbrel is valuable; he can dominate that one category for you and give you an advantage over every other team you play. Kimbrel is going to be in the hunt for the league lead in saves this year. He got 42 last season and there’s a very good chance he could manage to do that again this year. The Braves have upgraded their team in a variety of ways and the run support ought to make his job that much easier.

Kimbrel’s not just a saves guy though. He’s also got a dynamite ERA. Last year it was a 1.01 and while it may be a bit optimistic to expect him to repeat that again this year it would be premature to say he can’t possibly do it. Kimbrel has a good long track record and he’s got one of the most enviable K/9 stats in the majors right now. In nine innings of work he averages over 16 strikeouts which puts him at the top of the league in that category. He can get you triple digit strikeouts nearly every year as well. If you’re looking for saves in 2013 fantasy baseball there’s really one player you want. Kimbrel is the best in the business and you’re going to love having him on your team this season because nobody else is nearly as good as he is.

Despite really not being all that well-known outside of Atlanta, it looks as though Kimbrel is going to be the real deal. This is a guy who could be the next great closer in baseball now that some of the best closers are calling it quits. It will be interesting to see how he does for a team that has expectations to make it back into the playoffs and perhaps make a World Series run. Chances are, you will have a lot of time to prove himself this year.
